The Consumer Code, governed by the Legislative Decree 206/2005, is the gold standard for the protection of consumer rights in Italy.
It serves to clearly define the relationships between:
• The Consumer: the natural person who purchases or acts for purposes unrelated to a business, trade or profession.
• The Professional: the company, entity or vendor acting within the scope of its professional activity.
Why is transparency good for your business?
In the Italian market, providing clear, complete and truthful product information is not only a legal obligation, but an essential operational strategy. Ensuring maximum transparency makes it possible to:
• Avoid litigation: Preventing legal issues and bureaucratic hiccups during the distribution and sales phase.
• Consolidating trust: Building a strong relationship with the end customer, enhancing brand reputation.
• Ensuring compliance: Operate in total safety with respect to inspections and audits by the relevant authorities.
Note: Compliance with the Consumer Code is closely related to manufacturing standards. Read more in our section Regulations.
The GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation)., represents the new European standard on the safety of products placed on the market.
This regulation does not replace, but supplements the Consumer Code, introducing more stringent requirements regarding the traceability and safety information that must accompany each product.
